WELL-BALANCED COMPOUND FERTILIZER FOR HIGH OIL PALM YIELD
Through its research spanning a period of 20 years, MPOB has finally succeeded in formulating a balanced compound fertilizer for oil palm, known as MPOB F1.
MPOB F1 is a well-balanced compound fertilizer which is crucial for oil palm plantations to produce high yield crop. It is produced through a dry compaction process using high quality raw materials. These materials are mixed and compacted to become hard and irregular-sized compound granules which may last up to 6 months in the soil, thus acting as slow release fertilizer.
The formulation of the various raw materials used in the production of MPOB F1 is listed in Table 1.
Ammonium Sulphate (AS) is used as the Nitrogen source in MPOB F1. AS is more stable in the soil compared with other Nitrogen sources such as Urea and Ammonium Nitrate. The source of Potassium is Muriate of Potash (MOP) while the Phosphate source is high water-soluble Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP). Kieserite is used as the Magnesium (Mg) source and borax is used as the Boron source.
